The Mysterious Death of Sushant: Tale of two families, two governments and two theories

After over 60 days of the most hyped case of the alleged murder of Sushant Singh Rajput, Supreme Court finally gave this case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A petition was initially filed by Rhea Chakroborty in Supreme Court for transfer of investigation from Bihar to Mumbai, after Bihar Police registered an FIR against Rhea & her family on the insistence of the father of Sushant Singh Rajput.

Sushant Singh Rajput, famous A-grade actor of Bollywood, hailing from Bihar was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai. Mumbai police started investigating and soon declared it to be a suicide case.

According to the family of the deceased actor, Mumbai Police wasn’t registering an FIR. They were rather forcing the family to give names of big production houses to get them involved so as to take the investigation in a different direction. These things have made the situation for the grieving family even worse which lead them to file a written complaint in Patna. After initial hesitation, Patna Police registered the FIR against the girlfriend of Sushant Singh Rajput- Rhea Chakraborty and her family members including Indrajit Chakraborty, Sandhya Chakraborty, Shruti Modi, Showik Chakraborty and others under Sections 341, 342, 380, 406,420, 306 and 120 (B) of the IPC.

Soon after that, Rhea Chakroborty moved a petition to the Supreme Court for transfer of the case(FIR) from Patna to Mumbai. Followed by this step, Father of Sushant Singh Rajput, Maharashtra Government & Bihar Government moved separate Caveat applications in the case requesting Apex Court to hear them before deciding on the Petition filed by Rhea Chakroborty, who is the main accused as per the family of Sushant Singh Rajput.

Rhea Chakroborty’s argument in filing the case had the notion that because she lives in Mumbai and the incident took place in Mumbai, the matter must be dealt by Mumbai police only while also claiming that she doesn’t trust Patna Police.

Sr Adv Vikas Singh who is representing the family of the deceased has said that, “an FIR can be registered at a place which has even a part of the cause of action and in a crime of this nature; you have to work on the mind of the victim. You control the mind by first distancing the victim from the family, the distancing from the family started by disconnecting Sushant Singh Rajput from his father and not letting him talk to his father. This is not a crime done in the spur of the moment; the death itself is not the crime. It is the facts leading to death which is a crime, and it includes shutting out the family and that ingredient is very important which happened in Patna”.

The Maharashtra Government supported the stand of Rhea Chakroborty while the Bihar Government supported the stand of the family of Sushant Singh Rajput in the Apex Court.

While this case was pending in the Apex Court, Bihar Police sent 4 police officials to investigate the case to Maharashtra. When the Bihar Police didn’t get enough support from the Maharashtra/Mumbai Police, they sent IPS officer Vinay Tiwari to help Bihar Police officials already investigating the case in Mumbai and establishing cordial relation between the states. Maharashtra Government, by forgetting all kinds of rules and precedences, made BMC to forcibly quarantine the IPS officer Vinay Tiwari as soon as he landed in Mumbai at 11 PM while he was in his official duty.

This shocked Indians at large and united the minds of Indians in this case, who were divided till now on the issue of Sushant Singh Rajput. This mainly happened because of the way a decorated IPS was treated while being on his official duty. This happened when the same Maharashtra Government & BMC didn’t quarantine the 4 police officials who were in city for quite some time.

This matter was raised by Bihar Government in the Supreme Court on the next date of hearing filed by Rhea Chakroborty where Maharashtra Government was ordered to release IPS officer Vinay Tiwari while condemning the act of the Maharashtra Government.

Following this, Bihar Government called back all their police officials from Mumbai and requested Centre to order CBI inquiry in this case which Centre accepted soon.

Now the Maharashtra Government & Rhea Chakroborty started contesting against CBI inquiry in the case, claiming that Mumbai police is capable enough to tackle the case.

Meanwhile, there started a foul play when it was claimed in the media that Sushant Singh Rajput was Bi-polar, suffering from depression and had a foul relationship with his family. On the other hand, questions on the integrity of family were also questioned by Rhea Chakroborty and the Maharashtra Government.

On the other hand, Sushant’s money going to Rhea & her family came into picture which made the situation even worse.

While granting the case to CBI, Justice Hrishikesh Roy of Supreme Court said,

“When truth meets sunshine, justice will not prevail on the living alone but after Life’s fitful fever, now the departed will also sleep well. Satyameva Jayate.”
