The Prime Minister takes the jab; the opposition continues to Politicize the Life- Saving Vaccine

While India continues to take on the corona virus and emerged as one of the world leaders in the development of a home- made vaccine; PM Modi took the first shot of the COVAXIN on Monday. Unfortunately, the opposition is still busy in petty politics which involves the vaccine.

Leading the fight against COVID- 19, India began with its second phase of vaccination on Monday, 1st March. This phase will let people aged 60 and above and individuals aged 45+ with high co- morbidity to take the vaccine shot. Therefore, following the criteria to get vaccinated, PM Modi took the first shot on Monday itself.

PM Modi took the first shot at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. Reaching early so that his security protocol does not bother the public, he got the first shot of the vaccine endemic to India- COVAXIN.

Two vaccines will be available to the citizens- COVAXIN by Bharat Biotech and Covishield by the University of Oxford at AstraZeneca. The vaccines available at the authorized private hospitals will cost 250 Rs each; while those administered at government hospitals will be free of cost.

Prime Minister Modi’s vaccine was administered by P Niveda from Puducherry and another nurse from Kerala accompanied her.

It is a well- known fact that the ‘liberals’ and the opposition had started questioning the vaccine and went on a fear- mongering spree, claiming in public that the vaccine is not safe to be taken. The opposition leaders, bereft of any facts, brazenly spread rumors regarding the vaccine and its safety.

For instance, Congress leader Manish Tiwari asked that who would take the vaccine which has questions over its reliability. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party President, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the vaccine will cause ‘impotence’ and that he will never take a ‘BJP vaccine’!

All such statements are innuendos towards the petty- politics played by such leaders only because the vaccine is India- made and rolled out under the governance of Modi. These words also highlight the irresponsible attitude of these politicians with which they tried to sow seeds of doubt and confusion in the minds of people over the vaccine when it is the only way to defeat the virus.

It is amusing to note that none of these leaders are ‘scientists’ nor do they have an iota of knowledge about the making of a vaccine. But for their obsession of targeting the ruling regime and the PM, they ran down the home- made vaccine and belittled the grit and hard- work of our scientists.

The opposition leaders also made a hue and cry about the PM and other important leaders of the BJP not taking the jab at first; and risking the lives of the frontline workers by beginning the vaccination drive by letting them have the shots first. At this point, it is crucial to infer that PM Modi did not jump the line and followed the vaccination age- criteria and made the protection of the frontline warriors a priority.

It is also important to realize that if the PM would have taken the shot first, the left- liberal lobby would have questioned the step saying that the PM was behaving like a VVIP and had a callous attitude towards the doctors, nurses, police personnel and all the other frontline workers!

But now, after PM Narendra Modi took the shot, the message is clear; the vaccine is safe. With this, the fear- mongering campaign of the opposition was bound to come to an end. Nonetheless, the left- lobby was quick to spot an ‘election gimmick’ played by the PM.

According to the ‘liberals’, the PM showing-up wearing an Assamese ‘gamosa’ and getting the vaccine shot administered by nurses from Kerala and Puducherry was a political gimmick as all the three states are going to elections soon! It is worth highlighting here that this was not the first time that the PM had worn the gamosa and he could not have said ‘no’ to the nurses only because they were from poll- bound states!

With the conception of phase 2, a new round of falsities has begun as well. Former Maharashtra CM, Prithviraj Chavan asked on Tuesday that why is the government charging 250 Rs per shot and how would the poor pay for the same. Unfortunately, he seems to be oblivious of the fact about the vaccine costs mentioned above in this article.

On Tuesday itself, Prakash Ambedkar who is the grandson of Dr. BR Ambedkar tweeted, “Prime Minister Narendra Mod, day in and day out drums Hindu loyalty but does not believe in Hindu nurses, hence took the vaccine jab from Christian nurse, what a behaviour.” Ambedkar deleted the tweet later without any justification.

These petty comments clearly imply that the left- lobby is rattled by India’s success at leading the world in this battle against the virus; and this is not the end. A lot of such silly, laughable yet deplorable comments are yet to come, and the lobby’s meltdown is far from over. One wishes that all the individuals who are doubtful about the efficiency of the vaccine or reckons that the vaccine is a mere political tool to gain votes, do not take the required dose and protect their well- being. After all, the vaccine can even cause impotence! (Pun intended)
