Thieves had a field day on Tuesday with goods worth over Rs. 7 lakhs being stolen.
At Corlim, Old Goa, thieves broke into the house of a retired teacher Maria Zena Sequeira and stole gold ornaments belonging to her and her daughter including an unique ear-ring set.
The thieves took advantage of the fact that the house was locked since Maria is attending to her husband who is hospitalized.
The incident came to light only when her neighbor who had gone to feed her dogs noticed that the latch of the door was broken.
The goods stolen from her house include wrist watches, gold chains, gold rings, gold bracelets, gold earrings, bangles, necklaces and some cash.
In another incident at Margao, goods worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs were stolen from a flat when the owners of the flat were away.
