Lifeguards rescued a tourist from Bangalore who was swept by strong currents at Palolem beach in South Goa, officials said today.
Mohammad Yusuff (20) who was holidaying at Palolem beach, 50 kms south of Panaji had ignored the warning by lifeguards and had gone for a swim in the choppy sea at around 6 pm.
“The victim was attempting to cross the creek next to the sea when a strong current washed him out,” a spokesman of Drishti Special Response Services which manages the lifeguard services, told GoaChronicle.com.
The lifeguard who had warned him of not venturing in the sea immediately rushed for his help with the rescue tube after relaying message to a lifeguard tower, he said.
“The victim got trapped in the strong current and was pulled 30 mtrs to the right (a rocky area) but managed to hold on to a rock,” he said. Yusuff has received suffered multiple cuts on both legs and right hand. Officials said he was handed back to his friends.
