With two tourist supervisors and 22 tourist wardens, the State government has constituted the Tourist Security Force comprising of ex-servicemen. The Government of India had recommended setting up this force.
After undergoing training and also orientation programmes, the Tourist Security Force has begun patrolling beaches and other places of tourist interest in Goa.
Though they are yet to be provided with an uniform, the Tourist Security Force personnel have been provided personal identity cards to enable the tourists to identify them.
The Tourist Security Force will initially ensure that the Beach Shack Policy is implemented and ensure that the terms and conditions of NOC or permissions are not violated. Besides, they are to ensure that tourists are not harassed by hawkers, masseurs, etc.
In fact, it is only after the Tourist Security Force began operating that a large number of people who used to operate on the beaches in Goa without any NOC or permission, have now sought the same from the Tourism Department.
