An old oak tree came crashing on a Santro vehicle that was parked beneath it at around 9 am on Thursday.
The tree was pruned recently as the local councilor perceived it to be a threat to life and property. However, according to the councilor Ramdas Hazare, his application to fell such threatening trees is languishing in the Margao Municipal Council for the last one-and-a-half year.
He revealed that while earlier the tree was not cut as permission from the Forest Department was required, subsequently it was lack of funds that stalled the works.
The owner of vehicle Simon Rodrigues admitted that he knew the tree would fall one day or the other and yet took the risk of parking his vehicle under it as he does not have parking place at his house.
The Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the scene and till late afternoon were trying to extricate the car.
