Agartala, May 5 (GCCurrentAffairs) The continuous effort of Tripura government to provide sustainable livelihood to the youth force has yielded a convincing result in last financial year that appeared to be a major success of BJP-IPFT government in the first year of its office.
According to report, Tripura government has compelled the nationalized banks to disburse Rs 1788.50 Cr loan alone under Prime Minister MUDRA Yojana to over 4.29 lakh unemployed entrepreneurs, which was ever highest in the state so far after statehood.
There are as many as six entrepreneurship development programs effectively implemented in Tripura in past one year that included Startup India, Stand up India, Prime Minister Kaushal Vikash Yojana, Prime Minister Employment Guarantee Scheme and Swavalamban besides, MUDRA Yojana those benefited more than six lakh entrepreneurs in the state, the report claimed.
“Even though the schemes are pretty old but in previous years, the state government did not have such initiatives and persuasions with the banks for implementing the self-employment schemes. As a result, hundreds of loan seekers had applied for the loans but most of the time those were unattended by the banks and credit-deposit ratio (CDR) in Tripura was critically low below 30 per cent,” an official of state finance department stated.
However, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb stated that CDR in last financial year had improved more than 50 per cent and the state government has been persuading with the banks to ensure the implementation of all the schemes as per the mandate. A large number of job seekers in Tripura today become job providers because of the attitude of the government.
“From the very first day, I have made my stand clear about employment. Earlier there was a notion that government job is the only option of employment and nobody recognised enterprise, small trading and business, value addition of local products and independent initiative for promoting local resources like tourism as an employment opportunity,” Deb stated.
In today’s world how people can be employed in the government sector? The scope of job in government sectors has been reducing day by day due to the shift of the economic paradigm of the country. Along with the expansion of education infrastructure, the central government has given emphasized on skill development anticipating the scale of future economic growth of the country, Deb argued.
He mentioned if the potential workforce of the country started relying on government job as the only source of employment, Tripura cannot develop its sphere of economic growth and it will remain as consumer state despite having the potential of small and medium scale manufacturing industries.
Referring to the study report of Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), a leading business and economic information company on unemployment, the chief minister stated that the report showed a steady decline in unemployment in Tripura and during one year it reduced to 22.7 per cent in February this year corresponding to last year’s figure 30 per cent.
The report claimed that unemployment rate in Tripura has declined by 7.1 per cent in a year and indicated that the alternative job-initiatives undertaken by new government beyond appointment in government sectors has yielded fruit and resulted in a sharp decline of unemployment.
“We have provided a government job to about 2000 persons in a year but it has a very little contribution in the total employment landscape in the state. However, the government is in the process of appointing necessary workforce like teachers, engineers, doctors and other staff in the public offices but it would be based on pure talent driven in a transparent manner; so that the development process will be further accelerated,” Deb added.
