Tripura ruling IPFT MLA faces domestic violence charge

Agartala, Dec 26 (GCCurrentAffairs) After six months of wedding, wife of youngest IPFT MLA of Tripura, has registered a case of domestic violence against her husband Dhananjoy Tripura and in-laws in West Agartala Women police station last night.

Police said investigation has been launched on the charges but nobody is arrested so far. However, Dhananjoy denied the charges and said conspiracy is being hatched against him to disturb his career by a vested interest group. The IPFT leadership has refused to make any comment on the development.

Earlier in May this year, she had also accused Dhananjoy, IPFT MLA from Rimavalley constituency of Gandacherra of Dhalai district of rape promising to merry for past few years. Later, after a brief legal tussle over denial to marry the girl friend, Dhananjoy Tripura had tied the knot with the girl at Mandai, the eastern outskirt of Agartala in June this year.

Based on the complaint, police registered a specific FIR against Dhananjoy under section 498 (A) and 307 of IPC and started investigation. But considering the profile of the accused person and political sensitivity, police did not want to detail about the progress of investigation. The involvement of promising young leader into such cases
thrice in a year embarrassed the top leaders of the party.

Reiterating the same complaint in FIR stated that she had been physically abused several times since 2014 by Dhananjoy promising her to merry and the date of wedding was fixed number of times but marriage was not solemnized, as the accused repeatedly changed the date taking various pleas. Allegedly, few days after wedding she has been subjected to physical and psychological torture by Dhananjoy and three of his family
members including mother and sister in-law.

“We met first time in 2010 when I was a school student and he was studying in college at Jirania. A year later, affair developed between us and I had been taken to his rented house at Abhoynagar in Agartala and his village several times promising to marry me.

During the visits, I was physically abused but never thought he will deny our relations,”the victim stated to police.
Initially, the marriage date was fixed in March 2017 and accordingly ring ceremony was also solemnized in girl’s family but the marriage ceremony was not done because of his engagement in the assembly election process. After winning the election, he stopped all communications with her. Dhananjoy finally was agreed the weeding following legal and political pressure in June this year, she added.
