Ex-MLA and Chairperson of National Fishworkers Forum Matanhy Saldanha along with Agnelo Rodrigues, President of Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott, at the only two Goans invited by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to participate in a workshop being held to discuss local people’s participation in implementation of Coastal Regulation Zone 2011,
The Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM) along with National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) is organizing the two day workshop on “Initiatives of Fishermen participation in the implementation of Coastal Regulation Zone 2011” at Chennai on 13th and 14th June.
Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh is expected to attend the workshop along with other noted environmentalists, scientists and others.
Since the fishing communities traditionally live in coastal areas, they have been given primary importance in the CRZ Notification 2011. It may be noted that no restrictions are being imposed on any fishing activities and allied activities of the traditional fishing communities in this area.
