Lifeguards posted at the Calangute beach helped two tourists in distress recently.
In the first incident, one Somshekhar Bandiwad from Dharwad was assisted by the lifeguards after he collapsed on the beach. The lifeguards noticed some commotion and found that four persons were trying to revive a person who was unconscious.
On finding that he was breathing normally and having a normal pulse, the lifeguards gave first aid to the victim including oxygen after which he was taken to a private hospital from where the victim was discharged within a few hours having fully recovered.
In the other incident, the lifeguards saved Shashank Kulkarni from Bangalore from drowning. Shashank along with his brother Rakesh were swimming in the sea when he drifted away and his brother’s efforts to pull him back were futile.
Lifeguards swung into action and succeeded in rescuing Shashank.
