Returning Officer and Sub Divisional Magistrate Sabaji Shetye cancelled two nominations who filed their papers for the post of the mayor and corporators in the forthcoming Corporation of the City of Panjim elections after scrutinizing their papers.
Durga Chari’s (Ward No. 22) nomination was rejected as she failed to produce the caste certificate, while Ashwini Chopdekar’s (Ward No. 28) nomination was rejected as she has not attained 21 years of age, which is mandatory to contest the elections.
The scrutinisation will continue on Wednesday also. The last date for withdrawing nominations is 25th February.
Election Commission will release the list of contesting candidates with their respective symbols on 26th February.
The elections will be held on 13th March and the counting of votes will be done at Government Pharmacy College, Panjim.
BJP and Taleigao MLA Atanasio Monserrate’s panel will contest from all 30 wards whereas NCP will contest 15 of 30 wards. Several independent candidates have also filed their nominations.
