With the arrest of Salim alias Suleman Shaikh, Ponda police have succeeded in solving two temple thefts. Salim was arrested on Monday after he was caught red-handed while attempting to rob a house at Parpatiwada in Bandora village last month.
During interrogation, Salim reportedly confessed to the thefts at Sateri Temple in Curchorem and Saibaba Temple at Durbhat. He also confessed to other thefts including chain snatching at various places like Usgao Tisk, Dharbandora and Quepem town.
Police have also taken Himanshu Kalikamaldhar, a goldsmith from Vasco into custody for reportedly purchasing the stolen gold ornaments from Suleman. Besides, Mallesh Bhimshe Yallawar, a blacksmith from Bijapur has also been arrested for supplying the tools to break into the temples and households.
On 24th January, Suleman along with his associates tried to rob the house of Sangita Gurudas Naik at Parpatiwada Bandora. However, as they were escaping from there, the registration number of their car was noted down and the same was traced to be belonging to one Jameer Jamadar from Gokak in Karnataka.
Police have attached the car and also recovered two kgs of silver and 300 grms of gold from the arrested persons.
