New Delhi: The Union Minister of Environment and Forests (MoEF) Prakash Javdekar feigned ignorance over the Environmental Clearance (EC) granted to Karnataka over the Kalsa-Bhanduri project at a All Party Meeting of Members of the Legislative Assembly of Goa led by the Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant.
Shockingly Javdekar has stated that a low-level officer has granted the EC clearance.
Interestingly, the ignorance on the EC granted by Javdekar is turning out to be a clear embarrassment for the Centre because the Environment Minister had taken to Twitter stating that the Centre had granted EC to Karnataka to meet its water requirements due to the follow-up of his Cabinet colleague Pralhad Joshi – an MP from Dharwad. Now however, the Union Minister denies knowledge of environmental clearance.
In fact, Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant too since yesterday has been towing the line that MoEF has not granted any clearance to Karnataka for Kalsa-Bhanduri project but has failed to answer when questioned about the Twitter claims of the MoEF minister.
Javdekar has sought 10-days time from Goa MLAs to clarify his clearance to Kalsa-Bhanduri project.
The All Party Delegation has urged the MoEF Minister to withdraw consent as the matter is subjudice
Leader of the Opposition, Digambar Kamat has stated that Mhadei River is the lifeline of the people of Goa and the people will fight for it vehemently.
Goa Forward Party (GFP) has filed a petition in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) over the Mhadei River dispute.
