Following the scrutiny of nomination papers on Tuesday, 789 nomination papers were found to be valid for the elections in 11 municipal councils scheduled to be held on 31st October.
The highest number of nominations filed are for Mormugao Municipal council where 159 candidates will view for the 20 seats, while at Margao there are 124 candidates contesting the 20 seats.
Incidentally, Baptist Joseph Dias is likely to be declared elected unopposed from Ward No. 3 in Valpoi Municipal Council as his was the only nomination paper found valid there.
On the other hand no elections will be held in Ward No. 9 of Pernem Municipal Council which is reserved for ST as the nomination papers of both the candidates were rejected since both had failed to attach the caste certificate.
