Unreported COVID-19 deaths exposes BJP’s ineptitude: AAP Goa

Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa has condemned the BJP government in Goa for its complete lack of ability and interest in saving Goan lives from the coronavirus pandemic.

Reacting to the news of another 68 deaths that remained unreported from Aug 2020 to June 2021, State Convenor Rahul Mhambre said this is the fourth time that the BJP Govt had failed in this basic duty of Covid management.

“CM Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane have been too busy in political wrangling, instead of focussing on their main task of saving Goan lives. This is the fourth time that unreported deaths have been discovered, and with the previous tally of 74 unreported deaths, today’s figure of 68 makes it a total of 142 unreported deaths so far”, Mhambre said.

Mhambre recalled that AAP had demanded that the Govt release the mortality bulletin of the previous unreported deaths,

“Goa Govt must release the mortality bulletin of these deaths. These contain important information such as cause of death, date of admission, co-morbidities the patient had, reason of death, whether death occurred within 24 hours and whether the patient was vaccinated. Analysis of such data helps doctors and epidemiologists decide the future course of action in such pandemics. The latest figure released of 68 unreported deaths is not only an insult to the families of the deceased, but also a disservice to those who rely on this information to save lives”, Mhambre charged.

Mhambre also pointed out that Govt had appointed Nodal officers for the Central admission purpose.

“Were they not aware of these lapses? If not, then why? Its a matter of grave concern and that is why we are demanding for Judicial enquiry and till then Rane should resign on moral grounds”, Mhambre demanded.
