UT records 30 new COVID cases, two fatalities in past 24 hours

Puducherry: As many as 30 more persons were tested positive for Coronavirus and two patients died in the Union territory since the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM, on Sunday, taking the total number of active cases to 316 and deaths to 638.

According to COVID-19 status released by the health department here, of the 3,050 swab sample tests conducted on Saturday, 30 persons tested positive for the virus.

About 22 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, one in Karaikal region and seven in Mahe region.

During the last 24 hours, 40 persons were discharged and 24 of them were from Puducherry region, five from Karaikal region, three from Yanam region and eight from Mahe region.

One death each were reported in Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

Presently, 110 patients are being treated in Puducherry region, nine in Karaikal region, one in Yanam region and 36 in Mahe region.

Another 160 persons diagnosed positive for COVID were taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of UT.

So far, 38,455 persons were infected by the virus and of which 37,501 patients were treated and discharged, 638 people died and 316 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.

The case fatality rate in the UT is 1.66 per cent and the recovery rate is 97.52 per cent.

A 76-year-old man Ramakrishnan with Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension died due to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Jipmer yesterday while, Subramanian (82) with Type II Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension as comorbidity died in the Karaikal Government Hospital due to severe Covid Pneumonia and ARDS.
