The United Tribals Association Alliance on Thursday called off their demonstration which was to be held on 19th December, after Chief Minister Digambar Kamat promised to fulfill their demands of setting up of Tribal Welfare Department and Tribal Commission in the State.
The Chief Minister assured UTTA that their demands would be fulfilled by 5th January 2011. The delegates of UTTA included President Prakash Velip, MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Treasurer Govind Gaude, Secretary Uday Gaokar and members Vishwas Gaude, Ravindra Gaokar and Namdev Fatarpekar.
It may be recalled that UTTA’s demand of setting up of Tribal welfare Department was to be completed by 15th January 2010 as per the written assurance given by the director of Social Welfare in the presence of the Chief Minister on 16th December 2009 after an agitation by UTTA in Panjim.
However, in a case of better late than never, the Chief Minister has now assured that their demands will be fulfilled by 5th January 2011 nearly one year after it was to be fulfilled.
