Vasco Rape Case: Court says book Head-Mistress for Destruction of Evidence

In what could be considered to be a small victory for the family of the Vasco rape survivor, Judge Anuja Prabhudesai hearing the case at the Children’s Court has instructed the Goa Police to book the Head Mistress Sharlet Furtado, Class Teacher Deesha Kavathankar and Head Clerk Brazino Godinho of the Deepvihar School under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for destruction of evidence. The offense now becomes a non-bailable offense.

Speaking to GoaChronicle.com, father of the rape survivor said that this is the first step in the right direction toward ensuring justice for my child. This comes at time when I felt the police and government machinery had failed. Now that the court is monitoring the case, at least we can hope for justice.

Under Section 201 of IPC, GoaChronicle.com has learnt the head-mistress and other accused for destruction of evidence will now have to be arrested by the Crime Branch for further interrogation.

The Court has also directed the police to investigate the MPT Official offering the family Rs 5 lacs demand draft and whether it was done to hush up the rape case.
