Vijai moots formation of New Socialist Regional Party
As the former general secretary of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), Sardesai has been instrumental in many a coup to benefit the party and his political circle. However, he too became of victim of a political game that was played by some members of the local Congress party and some at the high command, which led to the denial of the party ticket from Fatorda and his subsequent resignation from the Congress party. Riding on the sympathy wave as well as the strong anti-Congress wave, he won the Fatorda seat ousting two time BJP MLA Damodar Naik. Since then the MLA appears to be the only voice of constructive opposition to BJP-led government.
This announcement take serious significance since it comes shortly after his birthday celebrations, which saw many a political face attend at different intervals, especially his former Congress colleagues. And with most the current Congress MLAs feeling let down by the Congress High Command on numerous issues which has led to the current pathetic plight of the Congress in the state; could the announcement of this regional party be the alternative that many political forces in Goa would be looking too as to BJP and Congress, since not many consider the local regional party of any merit, including the Mickky Pacheco-led Goa Vikas Party who appears to be a family and friends centric party.
When GoaChronicle.com spoke to Sardesai, he did comment that Goa needs a socialist regional party and he would work towards it; but he refused to divulge any more details on any of his moves forward on this front.
