Villagers up ante against Tiracol Golf Course

The villagers of Tiracol have alleged that 40 to 50 cashew trees had been felled by the developer Leading Hotels and further accused the company for tresspassing into a property and also cutting part of the hill.

Leading Hotels is reportedly developing Goa’s first PGA-Standard Golf Course with allied hospitality services such as resort and Spa, spread over 342 acres, which is reportedly expected to cover the entire village.

The St Anthony’s Tenant Mundkar Association (SATMA) gathered late in the night at the site and in the presence of the police forced the stoppage of the work. According to SATMA member Agnelo Godinho, “In the night the developer encroached on the property under Survey No 6/1 and destroyed cashew plantations, also cut part of the hill, we all depend on the hills for our survival. The government should investigate this and save us.”
