Mormugao Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Kashinath Yadav whose nomination papers to contest the ensuing civic polls in Goa from Ward No. 15 have been cleared is reportedly also a registered voter in the village of his ancestors in Uttar Pradesh, according to a report in a local daily.
Kashinath Yadav along with his wife, son and mother are registered voters in Katahitkhas village of Machalishahar constituency in Jaunpur District of Uttar Pradesh.
While Kashinath Yadav’s name is registered at Serial No 813 in the Machalishahar rolls, his wife Ushadevi is registered at Serial No. 816.
In Goa in the rolls of Vasco constituency, Kashinath Yadav’s name is listed at Serial No. 604 while is wife Ushadevi’s is listed at 608.
This is in gross violation of The Representation of People’s Act where in Section 17 it is clearly stated: “No person shall be entitled to be registered in the electoral roll for more than one constituency.”
Yet Kashinath Yadav has not only been elected once to the Mormugao Municipal Council and occupied the position of Deputy Chairperson, but is slated to repeat this illegality.
