Two wagons of an empty freight train while on its way from Margao to Verna derailed last night at around 9:30 disrupting traffic on the Konkan Railway route for the entire night.
The wheels of one wagon gave way as the train pulled out of the Margao station and two wagons got derailed. However, the driver of the train did not realize what had happened and the train chugged along for nearly 300 mts and it was only when the two wagons jumped on the second track at the track changing junction that the driver realized what had happened.
Traffic on the route was disrupted for the night and restored only early morning. The Yeshwantpur Express was delayed by over five hours and crowds were seen at the Margao railway station waiting to board their respective trains.
