Will grant sanction to prosecute Kanhaiya, Umar, Sharjeel: Shah’s electoral promise

New Delhi, Feb 6 (GCCurrentAffairs) Drawing voters attention to the infamous three-year-old JNU’s alleged anti-India sloganeering row, in which the then student union president Kanhaiya Kumar was booked under sedition charges along with Umar Khalid, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday assured to pave way for the prosecution of the duo along with Sharjeel Imam, if voted to power.
”If BJP wins Delhi Assembly polls then within an hour of the swearing-in ceremony, Bharatiya Janata Party will grant sanction to prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam,” Shah said in an election rally at Mayur Vihar Phase III of Kondli Assembly Constituency in East Delhi.
Former JNUSU leaders Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid were charge-sheeted in a sedition case that involved the use of anti-national slogans in 2016, whereas Sharjeel Imam was arrested on January 28 from Bihar over his controversial remark on Assam during an anti-CAA protest at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
The Union Home Minister alleged that Delhi Chief Minister and AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal has deliberately prevented the sedition case’s proceedings in the High Court in order to play vote bank politics.
Hailing the Centre’s decision of revoking Article 370 from Jammu & Kashmir and introducing Citizenship (Amendment) Act along with Balakot strike post Pulwama attack in Feb 2019, Shah said that both Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi speak the same language as Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
”They (opposition) have misled the Muslim minority of the country against CAA. Protesters at Shaheen Bagh are sloganeering for Jinnah wali azaadi. What do they want freedom from? The country has already gained independence on Aug 15, 1947. Rahul Baba and Kejriwal support these demonstrations. Now it is upon you to decide whom do you want in power—them or Narendra Modi, who has always given a befitting reply to Pakistan. Delhi has to choose between the two ideologies”, Shah said to the crowd.
Further alleging that AAP leader has failed to deliver on his promises of building 20 new colleges, free WiFi internet access across the capital, adding 5,000 new buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) fleet and a clean the Yamuna river, the 55-years-old BJP leader said, ”Governments fight on developmental issues to get the first rank. Kejriwal, in this regard, has failed all the tests but stood first in lying.”
