“Lusofonia Games are held under the Olympic Banner since National Olympic Committes are involved. For the moment we can hope for a early settlement to the IOA concerns with IOC. There is no question of holding the games if the suspension continues, but let’s wait and see, how the issue gets resolved,” expressed Elvis Gomes, executive director, Sports Authority of Goa (SAG).
The Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committee (ACOLOP) is a non-governmental organisation with 12 members, including India and is affiliated to the IOC. It’s stated mission is to promote Olympic ideals among its member countries and regions.
According to Goa Olympic Association (GOA) secretary, Gurudatta Bhakta, “I don’t think the Lusofonia Games under any threat. This issue between IOA and IOC will get resolved shortly.”
