Will MK Shaikh pip Vijai Sardesai for Congress Fatorda seat?

If indicates of the recent trip of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) vice-president M K Shaikh to Delhi to meet with the Head of the Central Election (Screening) Committee is something to go by, then it appears that in all probability the GPCC general secretary Vijai Sardesai might not get the Fatorda ticket but instead the high command would prefer to give to the Muslim candidate M K Shaikh instead.

GoaChronicle.com has learnt through highly placed sources in the All India Congress Committee that the party is being faced with a dilemma in Mormugao Sankalp Amonkar the former Goa Pradesh Youth Congress president and a personal favorite of Rahul Gandhi has made a bid for the Congress ticket and will also get the ticket, this will leave another strong Muslim candidate Saifulla Khan out of the equation and since the Muslim community has been demanding for a ticket in the forthcoming elections, it appears that in order to pacify the community, the High Command would give M K Shaikh the ticket for Fatorda which has also got a sizeable amount of Muslim voters.

Currently three constituencies have got a strong Muslim voter-base Vasco, Mormugao and Fatorda.

When GoaChronicle.com spoke to M K Shaikh on the issue, he confirmed that he has indeed been called by Oscar Fernandes, but cannot comment or confirm on all ticket allotment since it a decision of the party high command.
