Will Shinde replace Dr Manmohan Singh as India’s next PM?

Though not yet officially confirmed but cannot be denied, discussions at upper echelons of the Congress are bordering on a possible re-shuffle at top post of the UPA-government. Sources close to both the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president and vice-president have confirmed that a discussion to replace Dr Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister of India with Sushilkumar Shinde – the current Union Home Minister had taken place in the week and might continue early next week.

However, sources have added that decision whatsoever has been taken on the issue, it is only at a discussion stage and an outcome of change could be possible.

Dr Manmohan Singh has been the Prime Minister of India for the last nine years. Over the last couple of weeks however on several issues such as the Ordinance to overrule Supreme Court Order of disqualifying MPs/MLAs from contesting election if convicted of a crime, which was withdrawn after Congress vice-president made a public declaration of it being, ‘nonsense’ that it need to be ‘torn out and thrown away’. The heat around allegation of ‘Coalgate’ and the alleged involvement of the Prime Minister’s office; Dr Singh has been at the receiving end of criticism.
