Woman SPO fired, arrested for allegedly glorifying militancy in Kashmir

Srinagar: A woman Special Police Officer (SPO) was fired from her job and later arrested for allegedly glorifying militancy and obstructing government officials in their duty in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.

A police spokesperson said that following specific information about present if militants on Wednesday, a joint search operation was launched by security forces in Karewa Mohallah of village Frisal in Kulgam.

“During the operation, a search party was obstructed to by a woman, identified as Saima Akther, a resident of Frisal. The woman resisted the search party and turned violent and uttered statements glorifying violent actions of militants,” he said.

He said the woman captured a video through her personal phone and uploaded it on social media platforms for dissemination with the intent of disrupting the search operation.

“Taking cognizance of the matter, the woman has been arrested and subsequently terminated from service,” he said.

He said a case FIR No 19/2021 U/S 353 IPC, 13 ULA(P) Act has been registered in Police Station Yaripora and investigation is in progress.
