Curchorem Police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly killing her 38-year-old husband with the help of her three lovers. The prime accused, identified as Kalpana Bariki, chopped her husband’s body into three pieces in a flat at Curchorem, Goa. After murdering her husband on April 1, Bariki stuffed his body parts in gunny bags and threw them off at three different locations in Anmod Ghat, police said.
The sudden disappearance of the victim, identified as 38-year-old Basavraj Bariki, went unnoticed and there was no missing complaint filed in the police station, the police officials said. South Goa SP Arvind Gawas said that the murder took place as the accused had been in three illicit relationships and wanted to get rid of her husband, who had continuously been fighting with her over her relations with other men.
“The husband worked as a taxi driver in North Goa and would come home once in a fortnight. As he suspected her extramarital affairs, he would often pick quarrels with her,” Gawas told media. Three other accused, identified as Suresh Kumar from Rajasthan, Pankaj Pawar from Aquem in Margao, and Abdul Shaikh from Cacora, have been arrested and the hunt is on for the fourth accused.
Kalpana planned to murder her husband after the victim fought with her over her illicit relationships. “While she strangulated Basavraj with a rope, Gujjar held Basavraj’s legs to pin him down. The others helped in chopping the body and disposing it off,” the officer said. Following her arrest, Kalpana took the police to the locations where the victim’s body parts were dumped. She has been booked Section 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) under the IPC.
