Home Minister Ravi Naik announced that women would be recruited shortly in the Fire and Emergency Service of Government of Goa. The announcement was made while speaking at a function held to observe the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services’ Annual Day.
Ravi announced that the recruitment rules are in the process of being amended to enable women to join the department which has till now been the domain of only men with women only being recruited for the clerical, administrative and housekeeping jobs.
Speaking further, he said Goa is having good network of Fire Service Stations catering to the needs of people in all talukas. He said, “Due to increasing population in coastal areas, more fire stations will be opened along this belt. To begin with, a station will be opened at Saligao catering to the needs of people in Calangute, Candolim and Saligao.”
“To meet emergencies in high rise buildings, stations in the state the department being equipped with modern equipments with two ladders being added at North Goa and South Goa”, he said.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Secretary Sanjay Shrivastava said that the government will endeavor to make Goa a model state in fire and emergency services. Shrivastava said: “These are very important and multi hazardous services directly connected to lives and properties of the people. The government will ensure that the fire services personnel who endanger their lives are provided with state-of-the-art equipments for performing their duties.”
