Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ashwani Kumar on Saturday while asserting that the Congress was committed to enacting the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, however, confessed that he was not aware if the bill would feature in the ensuing monsoon session of the House.
Speaking to media persons after meeting a delegation of the Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress, he shockingly stated that he was not aware of the agenda for the monsoon session.
While asserting that party president Sonia Gandhi was committed to getting the bill enacted, he said there were other issues including a Constitution Amendment that needed to be considered.
He however said that sufficient representation will be given to women while allotting party tickets for the ensuing elections to the Goa Legislative Assembly.
The Congress Party had the last elections had nominated only one lady candidate even though the bill seeks 30 per cent reservation for women.
And while promising that only clean candidates will be fielded by the party, he refused to comment on the various scams and scandals and criminal cases pending against various Congress ministers in the State.
