‘Yes to Mopa’ gets stronger amongst Goa legislators

The government unwillingness to come-out for a debate on the feasibility and technical viability of the co-existence of Dabolim & Mopa airport and fast-tracking of the global tender for development of the airport project is because of the support that the government has received from its legislators BJP & Alliance members including its Opposition from the Congress, with the exception of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco at it was clearly evident during the Demands Session in the on-going Goa Assembly.

With the BJP, MGP and GVP alliance being in majority that was not surprising. However, Congress legislators such as Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane also lend its support to the demand for the Mopa Airport in keeping in mind the growing tourism market, but, most importantly it has to be done with parallel development of infrastructure such as roadways and other connectivity.

In this interesting stand taking by many of the legislators on the Mopa Airport, and with many of the South Goa leaders putting up a feeble defense and almost agreeing with the stand of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Mopa Airport will be moving ahead as per the plans of the government. Even the Centre has now put Mopa Airport in its fast-track plan.
