Namdev Ladu Gawas, resident of Chandel, Pernem, shot at Keshav Gawas with his DBB L .12 bore gun due to previous enmity.
Police say that the victim Keshav Gawas, 29, was fencing his property when Namdev Gawas, 55, who arrived there with his cattle, picked up an argument with the victim. Later, in a fit of anger, Namdev ran to his house, brought out a bore gun, fired at Keshav on his thigh and immediately fled from the scene.
On hearing the gun shots some locals gathered at the site and shifted Keshav to the hospital.
Pernem PI Uttam Raut Dessai and DySP Sammy Tavares, on receiving the information also rushed to the scene. The police found some cartridge marks on a mango tree near the site where the firing took place.
Later, police recovered a gun and two cartridges from the house of Namdev.
An offence under Section 307 of IPC has been registered against the accused who is presently absconding. Dessai is investigating the case under the supervision of Tavares. Sources say that Namdev had earlier threatened to kill Keshav with the gun over the same issue. Villagers also said that Namdev had earlier attempted to shoot at a person in the village over some argument. The bullet missed him. It is also believed that Namdev possesses two bore guns.
