Zooming into what the current world crisis holds for us

Astrologically speaking, this current world crisis which we are seeing from early 2020 is more about Power/Authority/Structures/Rules. Since the crisis started around the time when Pluto and Saturn entered the sign of Capricorn which is the 10th house of the natural zodiac – it is about the way our world is structured. Pluto represents Yama – the god of death, seeing it in the sign of “systems” – shows the fact that this crisis will lead to the death of old systems. Some Astrologers also liken Pluto to Lord Shiva, a transformative force – this transformation is indeed a painful process, which is evident from the current scenario in the world and especially in India at the moment.

Capricorn is represented by the mountain goat – an animal that is very resilient and strong. Its resilience comes from living in nature – in the rocky and rugged mountains and feeding on grass and herbs. Nimble feet and strong lungs define the strong movements of the mountain goat even on the steepest of slopes. If this doesn’t give you a hint of what needs to be done to improve your immunity, then I don’t know what can.

Capricorn is an earth sign and this negatively indicates rigidity at times but also the solidity that comes from connecting with the roots. Rigid and fixed thinking is the norm despite a lot of ambiguity about what’s going on – we are hardly seeing any form of innovation is encouraged. Saturn being in Capri doesn’t help that, Jupiter coming to Capri from Nov to March did help to ease the situation quite a bit but as soon as it moved to Aquarius we started seeing the scenario worsen. Saturn is the planet of restrictions and limitations – lockdown types of scenarios are likely to continue till Saturn leaves Capricorn in Jan 2023. Being an Earth sign indicates the need to connect with Mother Earth more harmoniously to restore the balance in terms of health and wellness.

Pluto is opposite the 4 pyjamas of Cancer, which represents the “home” and “security”–suddenly, so many people worldwide are forced to work from home and many have lost their sense of security and livelihood due to the shutdown of thousands of businesses. Some Vedic Astrologers see the 4th House/Cancer as an indicator of education, the drastic changes in the way people attend lessons in their pyjamas from their homes via online medium are not something anyone could have foreseen.

Pluto’s 5th and 9th aspect lands on the 2nd sign and 6th signs. The 2nd sign represents family, economy, and education. Locking down people in their homes has unearthed multiple family issues for many people, Pluto represents these subconscious issues that are leading to depression, anxiety, suicide, and so on. The world economy is also undergoing a drastic change in ways that none of the experts can decode, the “great reset” is a term that many uses in recent times. The 6th sign represents health and routine life – the effects of Pluto are pretty self-explanatory in that area, though I would like to add that the way we look a medicine and healing is going to change big time after we learn from the mistakes that we have committed to yield this crisis.

Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are considered to be generational planets, the changes taking place in the next 2-3 years will ensure the ushering of this new generation that looks at things differently.

Vedic Astrology is known for its ‘remedies’ to planetary afflictions, in this case, what would be the remedies for this massive re-tuning that we are seeing? Pluto is described often to have characteristics similar to the god Shiva, the transformative force, for those who are into Indian spirituality– it would amaze to chant or at least play Shiva mantras like Maha Mrityunjay mantra for long hours to invoke Shiva’s grace. Other remedies can include the Tibetan practice of Bardo and it’s very important to honour our ancestry and family tree as prescribed by the family tradition. Shamanic practices of invoking power animals like the mountain goat and also processes like Rebirthing Breathwork are very helpful.
