Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra on Thursday expressed shock over the findings of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which stated in its latest report that one in every four suicides in the country is that of a daily wage earner, and held the BJP-led central government responsible for it.

NCP state spokesperson Mahesh Tapase stated in an official release here that the corona pandemic and subsequent lockdown left small traders, artisans and labourers devasted but the BJP-led government never cared for them as it was busy in restructuring NPAs (non-performing assets) of its corporate friends.

The Indian unorganised sector was crushed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he randomly announced the policy of demonetisation and later coupled that with hasty and unplanned implementation of GST (Goods and Service Tax), he alleged.
