Even though the economy of the country is boosting up, rather than increasing, there has been a downfall in employment. In August, the unemployment rate was 8.28%, which is the highest in the last one year.

According to the data of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the urban unemployment rate increased from 8.2% to 9.57% in the month of August. While in the rural areas, it has increased from 6.14% to 7.68%.

In the state of Rajasthan, the unemployment rate in August was recorded to be at 31.4%, which is the third highest in the country. Back in July, the unemployment rate in the state was 19.1%, which means, it hiked 12.3% in just a month.

As per Mahesh Vyas, Managing Director, CMIE, 40 lakh people more than the average tried finding job opportunities in August but they could not bag any. On the other hand, employment has dwindled in the agricultural sector as well.

The highest unemployment rate was registered in Haryana, at 37.3%, followed by Kashmir (32.8%), Rajasthan (31.4%), and Jharkhand (17.3%).

The lowest rates of unemployment were recorded in Chhattisgarh (0.4%), Meghalaya (2.0%), Maharashtra (2.2%) and Gujarat (2.6%).
