It was after 2 years that the festival of Navratri was celebrated with great pomp and show. With Navratri came the exuberance of Ramleela, which people from all age groups love and enjoy watching. One such unique Ramleela was organized in Kotkasim village of Rajasthan, which is 134 years old and probably, the only one which is organized at daytime. To watch which, spectators from 84 different villages come to the site. This Ramleela was started by a sage who had visited the village back in 1889.

The sage had said that if the Ramleela doesn’t stop, the village will never face any difficulties, after which the villagers followed what he had said religiously, and everyone from the village takes part in the Ramleela organized here. The preparations for the same begin 3 months prior to the festivities and different generations of the same families have been playing various roles in the Ramleela.

As per the villagers, it is not difficult for them to involve the newer generations to take part in the same, because they enthusiastically become a part of it on their own. It is the children of the village who first, play roles in vanar sena and Ravan sena, and with time, start playing main characters.
