The preparations to choose the Pakistan army chief are pacing up. General Kamar Jawed Bajwa’s tenure will get completed on 29th November. PM Shahbaz Sharif, very dramatically, rather than going to Pakistan from Egypt, caught a flight from Qatar and reached London to meet his elder brother, and former PM of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif. In London, the whole of Sharif family has come together.

Maryam Nawaz is already in London. Political expert Mateen Haider has said that Nawaz wants to intervene in the selection of the army chief, in which Nawaz has two benefits, first, his quick return to Pakistan, and second, to create a safety circle from Imran’s political attacks. In an important development, Nawaz Sharif has been provided a diplomatic passport, and as per sources, he can return to Pakistan before the year ends.

After Bajwa, Lt. General Asim Munir is the senior-most in the race of becoming the army chief, and he is close to the present army chief Bajwa. Munir has also been an ISI Chief, but due to the erstwhile PM’s disliking, Imran Khan, Munir was removed from the post in 8 months, and Faiz Hameed was made the ISI Chief.
