The Harvard University was established in 1636, around 386 years after which, a black woman has been selected as the President for the first time. Claudine Gay has been selected as Harvard’s 30th President, and is the second woman to be selected as the same. Claudine has been a democracy scholar at the University, and she will step into office as the President in July 2023. She will replace Lawrence Becko, who is resigning from the post in order to spend more time with his family.

After Ruth Simmons, who led the Brown University from 2001 to 2012, Claudine will be the only black President in Ivy league and the second black woman. The 52-year-old Dr Claudine is a professor of African and African-American studies at Harvard since 2006. Prior to this, she was Assistant and Associate Professor of political science at the Stanford University, where she bagged a bachelor’s degree in economics. She bagged a doctorate from Harvard in 1998.

Claudine is renowned to be a strong voice talking about American political rights and roles, and about issues of inequality. She is a commendable leader, who is dedicated to maintain the educational supremacy of Harvard.
