BJP announces candidate for RS election

Kolkata: The BJP on Wednesday announced the candidature of Ananta Rai Maharaj for the coming Rajya Sabha (RS) election.

Ananta Rai, who declared himself the “maharaja” of the Rajbanshi community, has advocated carving up a slice of Bengal to create a separate Greater Cooch Behar state or Union territory.

The Trinamool Congress also on Monday announced the candidature of Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Samirul Islam, Prakash Chik Baraik and Saket Gokhale.

” We take great pleasure in announcing the candidatures of Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sukhendu Sekhar, Samirul Islam, Prakash Chik Baraik and Saket Gokhale for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections, “the party said.

” May they persist in their dedication to serving the people and uphold Trinamool’s enduring legacy of indomitable spirit and advocacy for the RIGHTS OF EVERY INDIAN. We extend our heartfelt wishes to all, ” the party added.

Election to 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal will be held on July 24.
