MHA monitors nationwide protests over Kolkata murder

Shimla: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ordered all States and Union Territories to send law and order updates every two hours, a measure aimed at preventing any potential unrest stemming from the murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, an official said on Monday.

The MHA issued the directive on August 16 to all State police chiefs to submit continuous law and order updates.

The updates would enable the MHA to closely monitor the situation nationwide, ensuring swift action to maintain public order, the official said.

After the Kolkata incident, protests erupted in Himachal Pradesh on the call of Himachal Medical Officer Association (HMOA) at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Dr Rajinder Parsad Tanda Medical College Hospital, Kangra and others medical college by the medicos who are holding gate meeting and sitting on dharna or holding picketing over their demand for better security.
