Replying to a letter written by Sulosh Pillay, the head of the Mohanji Centre of Benevolence in South Africa, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, and the President of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Velenkosini Hlabisa, provided assurance of raising the issue of the genocide of religious minorities in Bangladesh, in the Parliament of South Africa.

‘Thank you for bringing to my attention the humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh and appealing for my assistance in highlighting this crisis to the Government of South Africa’, said Hlabisa.

Further, the IFP President stated, ‘The most effective way of doing this is through the IFP’s influence in Parliament, where we are able to raise matters in both Members’ Statements and Matters for Urgent Debate. Although Parliament is currently in recess, the IFP will gladly carry this matter into the national debate and, once Parliament reopens in February, we will continue to highlight it in the National Assembly.’

Having promised his support towards the minorities in Bangladesh facing persecution, and hence, doing his part for contributing towards the #BangaldeshStopHate campaign, Hlabisa also stated, ‘I have the highest regard for the work done by the Mohanji Centre of Benevolence, and I appreciate your presence in the community on Nonoti.’

‘My party, the IFP, has a good relationship with the Centre, which I am pleased to further by responding to your appeal’, he added.
