History keeps repeating itself in India when it comes to Hindus being rendered homeless and living a life of refugees in their own country. This time, the Hindus of Murshidabad, West Bengal are facing the same circumstances, who fled their homes as a result of the violent attacks they were made the victims of, at the hands of their Muslim co-habitants.

Everyone around the country is discussing and debating the topic of the violence that took place in Murshidabad against Hindus and it is being largely perceived that the Waqf Amendment Bill was the cause behind the violent acts by the Muslims against which they showed their protest. But the moot point is that if the Muslims had to showcase their disgruntlement against the Bill passed, what relation did their ‘protest’ have with innocent Hindus being attacked, hacked, exploited, looted, and persecuted?

In a detailed discussion with Sonakshi Datta of GoaChronicle, sources from Murshidabad revealed how the said violence had nothing to do with ‘anti-Waqf amendment’ sentiments and was a pre-planned attack against Hindus of the region. Not only were the Hindus of Murshidabad attacked, Hindus of other nearby areas faced the same fate. As far as Murshidabad is concerned, Hindus became an easy target as they are a minority in this district. Areas of attacks against Hindus include Dhulian, Jangipur, and Dak Bangla.

As per locals, before the violent acts were unleashed against the Hindus of Murshidabad, homes of Hindus living in Muslim-majority areas had already been demarcated systematically, using signs and symbols, in order to identify and segregate them, highlighting how the violence did not erupt suddenly but was imminent to take place. Such identification led to incidents like Muslim rioters barging into the home of Radha Govind Das and stabbing him and his son repeatedly in cold blood.

Sources further revealed how the affected Hindus received zero support from any political party, and how the violence has nothing to do with another narrative of it being a mere ‘political clash’, which is being spun to undermine the religious underpinnings of the situation. Being solely anti-Hindu in nature, the Murshidabad violence has proven to be testing for even some eminent personalities from the ruling TMC party, who are now spending their days at the relief camps in Malda, along with other common Hindu refugees.

As per sources, eminent personalities like Calcutta High Court Advocate Mofakkerul Islam, TMC Minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury, Indian Secular Front leader Abbas Siddique, Rashtriya Secular Majlis Party leader Nawsad Siddique had earlier made comments like how they would make the ‘Ganga of blood’ flow and would play Holi with blood, insinuating at challenging Hindus in the state of West Bengal.

Apart from this, on April 15, which marked the Bengali New Year, multiple rallies were organized by Muslims during which both public and Hindu properties were looted, Hindus were attacked, and Hindu women were sexually exploited.

On being asked about the current situation in the region, the sources explained how this incident was proof of the total failure of the state government. They also delved into aspects like how the number of police and other armed personnels is significantly less as compared to the large population of the state of West Bengal, which results in the lack of action against rioters in such cases. And while central forces have been deployed in the affected region and the situation has been taken under control for the time being, nobody knows when similar circumstances could arise once again.

Along with this, police inaction against the rioters has also been seen and is not new in the state, reasons behind which are the lack of freedom police personnel have when it comes to taking colossal action, and an ecosystem systematically attacking policemen when they try to take steps like lathi-charge or opening fire against violent rioters. So-called human rights organisations tend to oppose such police action with all their might when a Muslim rioter is shot or gunned down, but their concern for ‘human rights’ is nowhere to be seen when innumerable Hindus are attacked and exploited by the Muslim criminals.

At the same time, the police personnel are unable to take concrete action under such circumstances because if Muslims are lathi-charged or fired at, rioters would easily find a new pretext to hit the streets and cause ruckus in an all-pervasive manner.

The sources also stated how a huge role was played by the illegal Bangladeshi and Pakistani immigrants who are settled in West Bengal in significant numbers during this incident of anti-Hindu violence, who could participate largely in the violence with the help of the overwhelming support they receive from the local Muslims of the region.
