Bhubaneswar: The Opposition BJP members on Friday stalled the question hour of Odisha Assembly over farmers issue forcing Speaker B K Arukh to adjourn the house till 1130 hours.

As the house assembled for the day to take up the question hour, the BJP members carrying banners stormed into the well of the house and raised slogans against the government for its anti farmer policy.

They slammed the government for inordinate delay in releasing input subsidy to the farmers, insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and mandi problem.

The Speaker requested the agitated BJP members to go back to their seats and raise the issue during the zero hours but the members did not pay any heed to the Speaker’s request and continued their slogan shouting near the podium of the Speaker with banners on their hands.

Finding no other solution to bring the house in order, Arukh adjourned it till 1130 hours.

When the house reassembled at 1130 hours after the adjournment to take up the zero hours, the BJP members continued their slogan shoutings and later staged a noisy walk out in the assembly on the farmers’ issues.

In the absence of the BJP members, the Speaker allowed the zero hour to continue. The BJP members later resorted to dharna in support of the demands of the farmers.

The party is organizing a massive rally of the farmers to gherao the state assembly on four points of demands which included release of input assistance, insurance money under the Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana and black-marketing of fertilizers.
