Britain sees hike in power costs, pubs, restaurants can shutdown

People all over Britain are apprehensive due to the increasing power bills in the country. A hike of 80% in the domestic electricity bills are expected from the next month. The government can at least provide some concessions when it comes to domestic gas and electricity bills but the business sector gets negligible amounts of discounts.

People associated with the business sector have warned that if the skyrocketing prices do not come down, the small businesses like bars and restaurants which use high amounts of power, will be forced to shut down.

Last week, the six big bar chains, breweries, and the British Beer and Pub Association requested the government to intervene in the matter and have stated that if the government does not take some action, bars in large numbers will be locked down. Even the companies and businesses which do not have to renew their electricity contracts are tensed, thinking about future situations.

According to the Small Business Federation, small shops ranging from laundries to other businesses will be affected and it has been estimated that after February 2021, the electricity bills of small businesses have increased a good 350% and the gas bills have increased a whopping 400%.

Many businesses including small radio stations, cafes and stores have already been closed down.
