On Thursday, December 14, in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off, resulting in a 45-year-old BSF jawan attaining Sadgati. As per the police, Head Constable Akhilesh Rai stepped on an IED and suffered serious injuries during a Road Opening Party (ROP) operation. According to officials, the incident took place in a village called Sadaktola, under the Partapur police station jurisdiction.

Rai was a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, and even though he was rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries there. Searches are now being conducted in the area by the BSF, the local police, and the DRG (District Reserve Guard).

This is the second incident in two days where a security personnel has lost his life in an IED blast. Another constable suffered minor injuries.

After the blast, the Naxals had opened fire at the forces, who then fired back at them.
