Kolkata: The CBI is probing the alleged recruitment scam in several municipalities, summoning West Bengal Fire brigade minister Sujit Bose to appear before the investigation officials at its city office, Nizam Palace, at 11 a.m. on August 31, official sources said on Thursday.

The summons happened after the anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seized several incriminating documents during raids on at least 14 civic bodies( municipalities) and found evidence of links between some influential officials in recruitment procedures, sources added.

Besides the arrest of one of the accused, Ayan Sil, by the Enforcement Directorate, another central probe agency.

Sil was arrested on March 19, 2023, in the alleged recruitment scam, and during a raid at his Salt Lake City office, the ED also seized many documents and his connection with the influential.

The ED took over the investigation of the money trails after the Calcutta High court directed the CBI to probe the alleged recruitment irregularities in many municipalities.

The state government challenged a Calcutta High Court order, which the Supreme Court upheld, reversing the decision.

Bose, the MLA representing the Bidhannagar Municipality, was vice-chairman of the South Dum Dum municipality in 2016.
