Hyderabad: Telangana’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj has directed the Commissioner of Labour, Telangana State, Hyderabad, to take strict action against organizations that do not grant a holiday on November 30, the day of the assembly election polling.

In a press note issued on Tuesday, the CEO highlighted that during the previous General Elections to the Telangana State Legislative Assembly in 2018 and the Lok Sabha in 2019, complaints were received regarding private establishments and IT companies not declaring a holiday for their employees. This failure to provide a holiday for employees to exercise their voting rights amounts to a violation of Sec.135 B of the Representation of People Act, 1951, and other applicable Labour Laws.

The Commissioner of Labour, Telangana State, Hyderabad, has been requested to ensure that all organizations and companies have granted a holiday on November 30. If not, the CEO has instructed the Commissioner to initiate stringent action as per the provisions of Electoral Laws and other Labour Laws, with intimation to the CEO’s office.
