Beijing: China’s national observatory on Thursday renewed a yellow alert for high temperatures as heatwaves scorch vast swathes of the country.

During daylight hours on Thursday, temperatures in parts of Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Hubei, Fujian, Sichuan, Guangdong, Hainan and Xinjiang are forecast at 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Center.

In some areas of Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Chongqing, temperatures may surpass 40 degrees Celsius.

The center advises reducing outdoor activities in the afternoon and due precautions for people working in high temperatures or for long hours in the sun.
