New Delhi: In a significant gesture of social responsibility, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjeev Khanna inaugurated a blood donation camp on Wednesday at the Supreme Court lawns.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, organised the event to commemorate Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, which is celebrated as National Youth Day.

Addressing the gathering, CJI Khanna highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering community service and underlined the judiciary’s commitment to contributing to societal welfare beyond the courtroom.

“This blood donation camp reflects how every segment of society, including the legal fraternity, can come together to save lives. It aligns with the spirit of service and dedication embodied by Swami Vivekananda,” remarked the Chief Justice.

SCBA President Kapil Sibal, along with other senior lawyers, actively participated in the event, applauding the bar’s commitment to organising community-driven activities. Several members of the legal fraternity, including advocates, judicial officers, and Supreme Court staff, also came forward to donate blood, underscoring the bar’s dedication to humanitarian causes.

The event saw a significant turnout, with the Indian Red Cross Society lauding the efforts of the Supreme Court in hosting such a meaningful event. Representatives from the Red Cross emphasised that the donated blood would go a long way in addressing shortages in hospitals and saving lives in critical medical emergencies.

This initiative by the SCBA not only celebrated the legacy of Swami Vivekananda but also set a commendable example of how legal professionals can contribute to the betterment of society.

The camp ended with a vote of thanks by SCBA office bearers, who pledged to continue organising such impactful events in the future.
