Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said the credit for taking India to international level goes to late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
“Nehru’s work was commendable at the international level for the Non-Alignment Movement with Yugoslavia President General Josip Broz Tito and India is still playing a major role in NAM,” he said after garlanding a statue of Nehru on his birth anniversary here.
As the Prime Minister, Nehru laid the foundation for India’s development, Bommai said.
He said Nehru worked very closely with Mahatma Gandhi and supported the latter during India’s freedom struggle to the hilt and strove hard for the country to bloom.
Bommai said Nehru loved children and his birth anniversary is celebrated as Children’s Day.
